Tulip season starts in the Netherlands

200,000 tulips, 15,000 tulip fans, 10 liters of coffee, 3 truckloads of tulips, 100 days of preparation and 30 volunteers. On Saturday, 16 January 2016, Dam Square in Amsterdam will again host the official start of the tulip season. In a specially prepared pick-your-own garden materialing on the Dam, everyone is welcome to pick a free bunch of tulips from 13:00. They can also enjoy the Dutch hospitality and cheerful music.

With the festive action, the tulip season is launched. It is expected that more than 1.7 billion Dutch tulips will be sold around the world to bring a feeling of spring into people’s homes. This opening of the tulip season is organised by Tulip Promotion Netherlands, an initiative of the Dutch tulip growers.

THEME: EUROPE

The theme of the fifth National Tulip Dag on Dam Square in Amsterdam is: Europe. The organisation is reflecting the Netherlands’ presidency of the Council of the European Union.

START OF TULIP SEASON

With National Tulip Day, the official tulip season starts, which runs until the end of April.During this period, most of the tulip varieties are available from florists and other outlets. There are more than 1000 tulip varieties in all colours of the rainbow that find their way from Dutch auctions to vases around the world. The tulip truly is the Netherlands’ calling card.
